Accretion

The evolution of drawing... I am leaving some of the paper blank and overlapping shapes. This is really a challenge to my desire to maintain rigid control of the surface.

The Empty Spaces

I have been covering the page with color. It was time to leave some white space.

Itty Bitty and Kinda Small

It has been grey and rainy here in Texas. I am supposed to be at a music festival but, instead, I am hiding out avoiding the cold and making tiny things. Here are a handful of new drawings I made to chase the rain away.

The tiny ones are 1" x 1". The slightly larger are 2" x 2".
Hope you are enjoying Spring, wherever you are. I am sure the rain will help the garden grow!

Interlock

Well, this is the last card. It has been fun, playing with color and drawing. A little departure from the usual. Now what?

Blue

More imaginary plants! I have to confess, I really did not take advantage of the fact that the marker strokes would be visible and the color uneven. I probably should have figured out a better way to fill in the ground. I am happy with the color combination, though. So, that's good.

Four More Squares (and Rectangles)

I've done this before and the results were interesting; I thought I would do it again. I have a form with which I am enjoying working. Here, it is intersecting lines to make rectangles. I selected four colors and created a set of rules for using the colors. Then, I varied the location of the colors according to the rules. I like the way that simply varying the location of the colors really changes the composition, the spatial perception, even the character of the colors themselves.

Stacked

It's funny how there are certain colors I really don't like alone but, in combination, become appealing.

Pink and Orange, Boxes and Cheese?

The box form was fun so I thought I would do one with more and different colors. Then, I was pleasantly surprised by the pink and orange color combination; I did another with that color combination. It looks like psychedelic Swiss cheese.

Blue and Gold Boxes

More fun with advancing and receding tints. I tried to use the directional strokes a little more effectively; it's tough with fat markers.

Imaginary Plants

A little semi-representational drawing. It drives me crazy that the background is not nice and solid. Oh, well. Mental note to use that as a design element in the future.

Sheets

More games with directional linework.

More fun with advancing and receding colors enhanced by directional linework.

The Colors Are Touching

I can be a little obsessive about keeping my colors separated by black lines. As it is always important to try new things, some of the colors are touching in this one. I think I like it.

Figure Ground

It is fun to play with the figure-ground relationship by using receding colors on what would generally be perceived as the figure in a drawing. Then, when you look at an image, your mind switches back and forth between what is in front.
