Crocheting Lessons Start Tomorrow

The more craft-savvy among you probably figured out long ago that much of my work is actually crochet. Yes, I crochet, just like your grandma. The only difference is that, instead of itchy yarn, I use metal. For the less craft-informed: it's how you make scarves and afghans with one hook and yarn (as opposed to the knitting, done with two needles).

If you know how to crochet with yarn, you will easily understand the transition to metal. The differences have more to do with technique and handling the material; the structure is pretty much the same. You will still have some adjusting to do; I know I did. You can actually use traditional lace crochet patterns for metal.

If you have never crocheted before, no worries. You can start learning with metal. I will provide pictures and information to help you along the way. An instructional book might be a helpful supplement. I like Maggie Righetti's Crocheting in Plain English. I've used my copy so much it is coming apart.

Each Wednesday I will share how-to's and tips for crocheting in metal. It is really fun but, bring your patience; it takes some practice.

See you tomorrow for Lesson 1: Materials. Please feel free to post any questions you may have in the comments section below.
